In this article, I will give you a preview of the best ABS 3D printers. I will also share additional information about ABS 3D printer filament to help you get started using this filament. So, without further ado here are the best ABS 3D printers on the market.

Best ABS 3D Printer

There are a lot of ABS 3D printers on the market. However, finding the best abs 3D printer is not easy as most brands claim to be one. I understand if you are feeling confused, most of us do when presented with tons of options.

To save you from hours of research and reading, I listed the top ABS 3D printers that I have tried on. These 3D printing machines are proven and tested when it comes to efficiency, power and quality of results.

#1 MakerBot Replicator 2X Review

This 3D printer is the best all-around 3D printer as it can process different filaments including ABS. This is an excellent 3D printer because it prints without problems. It’s bed works as expected.

In addition, you can easily remove your 3D printed object from the bed. Just twist and pull it off from the bed and you’ll have it.

It also comes with a smart extruder that adds some functionality that is valuable in detecting slips and faster heating up and cooling down. This is super easy to attach and it accurately detects issues and pauses in your print which saves you from tons of problems.

📌The best thing about Replicator 2X is it’s being predictable. This is highly recommended for beginners because it is user-friendly and trouble-free. If ever you run into problems (very rare case), this is also extremely easy to troubleshoot. Most of all, it produces high-quality outputs.

Overall, I am very pleased with this 3D printer from it’s sleek design, smart features, overall user experience and consistent quality.

There’s nothing to complain in this ABS 3D printer, perhaps, aside from its price. This device is highly costly compared to its competitors.

Pros
  • User-friendly software
  • Simple and easy to use
  • Fast print speed
  • Very good print quality
  • Prints via USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi
  • Operates quietly
  • Has a safe design for an open-frame printer
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Setup can be tricky

#2 Creality CR 10 Review

Creality3D CR 10 3D printer is a DIY kit aluminum 3D printing machine with a large print. It looks small but produces big prints. Since you have to assemble this, it’s much cheaper than most brands you’ll find in the market.

If you’re not confident with your assembly skills, don’t worry because this isn’t hard to set up at all. I’m personally not very skilled with this thing but good news, this only comes with three sets and you can assemble it in 10 minutes.

The wires are already connected to the control boards and cable, so you don’t have to deal with the hard part — wiring!

📌One of the best things about this ABS 3D printer is its size. This has a huge max size of 300X300X400mm. So, by using this, you won’t be limited to only printing small models.

In addition, this is a good deal. It is designed with imported linear navigation with low friction. This industrial-grade PCB can continuously print for 200 hours without pressure. So, yes, this is a good value for money because it has a long service life.

Prior to assembly, I suggest that you take out the included microSD card and adapter and read the material to be guided accordingly. The calibration may take time, but it’s very doable.

However, not everyone may find the assembly process easy. I didn’t have any issues when I assembled this but some of the things I believe that beginners might find challenging is that the X-axis limit switch cable was impossible to plugin so I had to disassemble the switch housing, remove the switchboard, plug the cable in and reassemble it. Leveling the hotbed with those little screws is hard on the fingertips.

Also, the filament seems to be prone to tangling which causes print failure. So, you have to position this at a certain distance from the frame for the filament to feed into the extruder without issues.

📌Although there are difficult parts, I’m very pleased with the results. It produces high-quality output. Actually, it yields the best looking prints for a DIY kit.

Pros
  • User-friendly
  • Simple design
  • Large print bed
  • Fast printing
  • High-precision
  • Intuitive control box
  • Removable glass print bed
  • Easy to assemble and install
  • Great value for money
Cons
  • Awkward extruder placement
  • Filament holder is prone to tangling
  • Print preparations can sometimes be tedious
  • Bed takes time to heat up

#3 MakerGear M2 Review

This 3D printer has a solid design. It has a steel rigid chassis. I like this because I believe that printers with steel frameworks better.

MakerGear M2 delivers great quality prints once fine-tuned. However, I have to tell you that this is not easy to fine tune. Some find it easy, but others don’t.

📌The good thing about this brand is that it has great support. They are very helpful, responsive and quick. If you have issues starting up, they will lead you along the way to help you get started.

This kind of support is a big factor for me and I know it matters to newbies, too. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro with trouble setting this up, you’ll receive the help you need.

Overall, I love the 3D printer’s built, quality output, and of course, the amazing support that stands out to me.

I have no issues with this perhaps aside from the price. However, I’ve heard from some that they had issues with overheating. So, you might as well take caution.

You might also find the leveling process too difficult.

Pros
  • Solid frame
  • Finer resolution
  • Larger print volume
  • Great customer support
  • Simplify3D offers more features and control
Cons
  • No LCD screen
  • The printer shakes a lot during fill and short moves
  • Leveling process is difficult
  • Simplify3D machine control panels take some adjustments and getting used to

#4 Robo R2 Review

Robo R2 is giving you a new game in 3D printing with this printer. This award-winning device is reliable, easy to use, and smart. With this, you can print bigger and better 3D projects.

📌What I love about this ABS 3D printer are its design and functionality. It includes a 5” color touchscreen, an onboard camera to monitor projects and Wi-Fi connectivity. Thanks to the latter, you can easily save your models in Google Drive and Dropbox.

Also, this uses an open source filament system. Thanks to this, you can use over 30+ materials from a variety of vendors when your filament runs out. I’m personally not into brands that only allows you to use their own filaments because it tends to be expensive.

This ABS 3D printer is great from its sleek design, the convenience of setting it up and creating your first 3D print. Although I didn’t have issues in using this for the first time, I heard from other users who had trouble making it work that their support was very helpful.

The best thing about this is that it so easy to calibrate for beginners. Just follow the instructions provided in the online video. It also prints roof structures and overhangs without the use of support. In addition, it converts STL files to print smoothly using free Cura app.

📌Considering its design, price and performance, this one is hard to beat.

However, just like any other device, users have different experiences with this. Some have complaints about its quality. I’m mentioning that here to give you a concrete idea on what to expect in this device.

This is not perfect, but personally, I’m happy and satisfied with what I’ve got. Perhaps it’s just a matter of a miss and hit in quality. But most of the users I know enjoyed this.

Pros
  • Sleek and simple design
  • Well-built and capable
  • Easy to set up and calibrate
  • Active and helpful support
  • Produces great quality for its size
  • Price is competitive
Cons
  • There are reports about poor quality
  • Some have trouble getting this ABS 3D printer to start

#5 Ultimaker 3 Review

Ultimaker 3 is a very impressive ABS 3D printer. It is slim but powerful. It is capable of helping you create sophisticated and detailed models and intricate geometries.

This 3D printer has reliable dual extrusion with water-soluble support. It is also smart and very convenient to use. Using this will give you complete freedom in designing.

Among its features that I love the most is its high uptime and fast changeovers with swappable print cores. It has a cohesive 3D printing ecosystem and connectivity, too.

It’s also very easy to use, changing the nozzle won’t take hours only 30 seconds. Its support material does not jam, the heat bed is uniform and it doesn’t need calibration. It’s a breeze.

In addition, I’m impressed that with this I can conveniently monitor and control my 3D printer when I’m connected to a Wi-Fi network. Its camera helps me keep an eye on the print and I can pause or abort the print. This helps me feel at ease working on my project knowing that I can still check on it even if I’m away as long as I’m connected to a Wi-Fi.

📌When it comes to results, this is very awesome. Ultimaker 3 is among the ABS 3D printers that are capable of producing superior results. If you see the 3D printed objects it produces, you will be impressed. It’s smooth, clean, and superior.

The downside with this ABS 3D printer is its price. Ultimaker is very expensive. Also, I noticed that it’s slower than other machines with dual nozzles.

Overall, I find Ultimaker 3 a great ABS 3D printer. Even if it’s expensive, this machine is worth it!

Pros
  • Simple and sleek design
  • Produces awesome and professional outputs
  • User-friendly, easy to use
  • Works straight from the box
  • Fast setting
  • Has dual extrusions
  • Support other types of filament aside from ABS
  • Built-in camera allows you to monitor your project
  • Wi-Fi connectivity enables you to control the printing process conveniently
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Slower than most printers
  • The multi-part spool holder is clunky
  • The instructions are not clear

Cheap ABS 3D Printer

ABS plastic 3d printer price varies. There are 3D printing machines that are very expensive while others are affordable. In this article, you will find Creality CR 10 as the most affordable ABS 3D printer compared to the other brands. This 3D printing machine will only cost you less than $500.

Most of the ABS 3D printer price is at least $1,000 or more. Creality CR 10 is the cheapest in the recommended brands above. It has a big print volume so you can create large 3D objects.

If you want more cheap ABS 3D printer, you can also try Instone Inventor Pro 3D Printer Kit this costs the same as Creality3D CR 10. Another cheap ABS printer is Anet A8. Just like Creality CR 10, this has a large print volume, but it’s much cheaper.

ABS 3D Printer Filament

You’ve got to buy ABS plastic for your 3D printer if you are using an ABS plastic 3d printer. The good thing with ABS filaments is that they tend to be durable and flexible. They also melt at high temperature. PLA prints look smooth but are brittle.

📌ABC 3D printer filaments are not easy to use compared to PLA. You might still need adjustments if you are a first time user as the two have huge differences. ABC is trickier to use.

If you are looking for the best ABS 3D printer filament, you can check out the top brands we recommend. These filaments are high-quality, has good layer adhesion, and are suitable for complex models.

If you need ABS plastic 3d printer, start by picking the ones in our list. You will surely enjoy 3D printing with it.

ABS 3D Printer Settings

If you are new to 3D printing and are still figuring out how to set your 3D printer ABS extrusion temperature, you’ll find answers in this section. I’ll cover the temperature, speed, cooling and heating settings. Let’s get started.

Temperature

You need a nozzle temperature between 230 – 250oC to properly print with ABS filament. You can start with 240o C.

Speed

ABS filament can be 3D-printed at a high speed. With this filament, you can go above 70 mm/s but if you do so, you have to increase the nozzle temperature to keep ABS hot enough to remain liquid. But the best results that will give you detailed output is printing at relatively low speeds <40 mm/s.

Cooling

ABS 3D printer filament is highly susceptible to warping. Thus, it is highly recommended that you keep a cooling fan at a low speed or even turned off prevent ugly deformities and warping.

Heating

3D printing with ABS filament requires a heated bed to prevent warping. The temperature the heated bed needs to be at 90oC minimum. The recommended temperature for the heated bed lies between 90 – 110oC.

Conclusion

These are the best ABS 3D printers on the market. Please take note that these 3D printers can also process other types of materials. But if you are specifically looking for an ABS 3D printer, you can trust that these machines work.

ABS 3D printers are not easy to use because this particular filament is difficult to process. But the good thing is, these brands are proven to work.
